SAS Business Class HKG-CPH

After having stopped off at James Suckling Wine Central for a snack and some fantastic wine, it was time to make my way back to the airport to head to Europe. I arrived right as the SAS counters were opening.

Unfortunately as I was checking in, I discovered we were stuck on the last SAS widebody without the wonderful Vantage seats and stuck on a crappy 2-2-2 angled-flat seat. Given I was ultimately heading to Zurich, I tried to get them to rebook me on the Swiss flight leaving that evening which has a superior business class product anyways. Despite much complaining, calling SAS and Amex, unfortunately nothing could be done. Cue Mr. Grumpy.

I breezed through security and headed straight for the Singapore lounge so I could shower after a long day and do some work before the flight.

The food spread, but I was still full so pics only.

After a refreshing shower in their re-opened shower suites, I made my way to the nearby gate for our shitty bird to whisk us to CPH.

Boarding mayhem with a huge cluster of people, I was not in a good mood, this didn't make it any better.

There we go, hello ancient cabin. What makes this bad is not the fact that it's still a somewhat flat biz class product, but rather SAS doesn't even list this plane on their website and their updated seats are private and excellent.

No privacy at all, I selected a seat in the middle section that way I didn't have to climb over anyone to use the bathroom.

To make things that much better, I asked if I could take a seat here that way I didn't have a seat mate, but it was blocked as a crew rest.

The ancient IFE system that had barely anything on it.

The amenity kit was meh, I only used the eye mask.

We pushed back on time and made our way for the slow A343 climb out of HKG.

Once we were airborne, the lights were turned on and I took the opportunity to also change into pajamas I had from my CX F flight to HKG earlier that day. Then menus distributed, at least they're colorful.

The drinks/cocktail menu.

The wine list looked passable for business class.

The food on my SAS business class flight to HKG was awesome, although I wasn't hungry, I was curious to see how it was ex-HKG.

Drinks service began promptly, I appreciated they wanted to get through service so we could head off to bed. I stuck with water to dry out and hopefully get some sleep.

The appetizer trolly with different options.

I went with the smoked turkey with caper cream and pickled vegetables. It was overall fine, but the turkey a bit dry.

Then the main course options.

Since I wasn't that hungry, I went with the char siu ling fish with rice and vegetables. It was flavorful and moist, definitely hit the spot.

Then the white chocolate mousse dessert was light and tasty.

With that it was time to digest a bit while watching Layer Cake again on my phone since there was almost nothing on the IFE. I then made my bed up and managed to try and perch myself to get some sleep. I popped some ambien and managed to pass out after a long day.

I asked the crew to wake me up 2-hours before landing and sure enough, I slept a solid 8-hours which I didn't expect.

By this time we were over Russia and heading towards CPH.

Breakfast service began with what I think is one of the better overall breakfasts served on flights.

Trolly with options.

The lovely spinach frittata was the star and going with some cheese and cucumber for freshness. The fruit was fresh and I went for minimal bread as part of my quasi-keto diet lol.

A couple more coffees to get going, I did a little work before we began our descent.

Soon enough beginning our descent into CPH.

And early morning arrival.

While the plane absolutely sucked especially compared to the rest of their fleet and the differential between expectations and what we got, it was a flight with good service, decent food - albeit not as good as ex-CPH or ARN. Would I fly SAS business again, sure for the right price, but personally would go for Singapore or Swiss before.
