We had booked Cathay Business Class from ICN to HKG using Avios points and thanks to help from SFO777's ShF. We arrived at the gate right as boarding was originally supposed to commence.
But we also noticed that passengers were just starting to deplane from the inbound aircraft and instantly knew we'd be delayed 20-30 minutes. Also I was a bit grumpy with an equipment swap from CX's A350 to 77W. Certainly not the end of the world since it was a long haul aircraft, but I hadn't flown a 350 and thought this was a great opportunity.
Sure enough after the delay, we were cleared and boarded through L1.
And in the cabin which had been somewhat recently refreshed and into the wonderful CX reverse herringbone seats.
I love these seats for business class, lots of privacy and room.
The updated entertainment system looked nice, albeit they should've upgraded the computer since it was incredibly slow.
A glass of bubbly while we waited to push back.
And a fantastic view of that GE90!
A full business cabin.
Pushed back and soon enough we were on our way.
Passing a LH 744.
An an Asiana A380 at the same gate we arrived at the other day.
And soon we had the glorious GE90 spool.
Followed by the just generally loud 77W.
A look at the menu on this 3-hours flight.
Fine enough.
And meh wine list, certainly better than the American carriers, but nothing jumping out.
Woohoo they have Oriental Breeze, one of my favorite drinks period.
And the first of several Oriental Breezes with the mixed nuts.
The starter with scallops was meh. The salad fresh and garlic bread to die for.
For my main, I went with the stir fried beef which was good, but not special.
Then the cheese cart.
Some cheese and fruit was tasty.
And ice cream and Sauternes.
Then time to settle in and relax for the rest of the flight.
Sadly by the time I started to actually relax, it was time to begin the descent.
But fantastic engine and wing views on descent and approach.
And to a remote stand which wasn't a problem since we weren't in a rush.
And provided great views of the massive engine!
And an SAS A340 next to us.
Great plane spotting on the wa to the terminal.
Cathay regional business class is good, not as good as Singapore's, but I'd fly them any chance I got. Certainly crushes the American carriers even compared to their long haul and no comparison to faux business class within Europe. We got through customs quickly and headed into downtown Hong Kong.
