I created a separate post to highlight the amazing food and markets we visited that were not Michelin (or should be) rated.
For exceptional cuisine posts from Barcelona, check out - Lomo Alto, Dux, Passadis del Pep, Escriba, Xerta and Lasarte.
The first night when we arrived, our hotel recommended we go to Teleferic.
A cool, modern vibe.
Plenty of pinxtos to choose from up front.
MsFlamingo started with a glass of Rioja and I started with a gin and tonic. I must say I was disappointed in the G&T because they tried too hard and had a fruity ice cube rather than letting the gin do its thing.
The first of many plates of jamon, always outstanding!
Croquettes and a tuna taco, both were tasty.
Next up an octopus that was tender, but they drenched it in truffle oil, no need for truffle oil...
They brought some steak and potatoes that were good, but nothing memorable. Overall the way I'd describe the place.
Each morning we started with cappuccinos at a neighborhood cafe.
Moniberic is a jamon shop I love, it was next door to our cafe and I had to check it out, and have a sample...
There are several great markets in Barcelona, but my personal favorite is Santa Caterina, it's a little smaller than the main one everyone goes to.
Ridiculously fresh goods.
In the market are several restaurants, but my favorite is a place called La Torna.
They have some of my favorite dishes anywhere, first of which is grilled asparagus over romesco sauce.
Their grilled prawns are fantastic.
The croquettes were also tasty.
Each afternoon we had to have a gelato while in Europe and found our favorite spot in the Gothic district.
Another day we were walking and decided to stop at a great tapas place off one of the main shopping districts.
They had a really cool gin and tonic cart I ended up sampling.
Nice bar seating.
The menu was helpful to decide what you wanted.
Very tasty!
The next day we checked out the large Mercat St Josep (how appropriate).
With all the amazing produce, we were definitely ready for lunch and decided to eat within the market at Bar Boqueria.
Starting lunch with some Estrella Damm.
Can see the kitchen and the amazing produce they use.
Starting with some red prawns cooked in garlic butter and bread with tomato smear.
Some white asparagus with chive creme fraiche, so tasty!
Fried artichokes, they were ok.
Rubia gallecia steak, wasn't nearly as good as Lomo Alto the other night.
Later that day, we (especially MsFlamingo) needed something a bit healthier and found a great place called Flax & Kale.
Lots of fresh juices, smoothies and healthy dishes.
For our final night, we went to a random tapas place for dinner called Sagardi's.
Really cool atmosphere, I wish we had more places like this back home.
Of course I noticed dry aging steaks in the window and we got a table to sample. We were brought out a regular steak and the rubia gallecia which of course I chose.
We started with a salad to have some greenery.
The main event, this was a great steak to end the Barcelona segment. Not as good as Lomo Alto, but close enough to be very satisfying and for any carnivore, you have to try dry aged Rubia Gallecia beef.
