With LHR and general EU travel massive backup due to some snow, the soonest I could fly out would be Weds. The positive side is it allowed me three days in my newest favorite city.
After sleeping in, I started the day by having a nice lunch at Costes Downtown in my hotel. Check out that great meal here.
After lunch, I started to really explore the town and Christmas markets.
Some very tasty looking food, but I was too full to try anything today, the next day I'd come back for lunch.
Loved this reindeer, super festive.
Great street vendors, this one was smoking salmon.
Another was a blacksmith making knives right then and there.
After a full day of exploring, I went back to Borkonyha for dinner. It was a fantastic meal, take a look here.
After a great dinner, I walked around more, this time heading to Parliament to see it at night. It was absolutely stunning. As good as it looks in pictures, it's way more stunning in person.
Nativity scene in front of Parliament.
Back at the street markets, lots of lights and activity.
I was too full, but this caught my eye and it looks like a better version of baklava.
Plenty of craft chocolates.
Capping off the night before heading back to my hotel and going to bed.
The next day I started by walking around the water, but for lunch headed back to the basilica to get something from the market vendors.
So many options.
I ended up going with a very hearty giant potato latke type dish with goulash and potato salad on top. I could only manage to eat about half and was stuffed, but it was great. Some warm mulled wine helped keep me warm.
Some interesting dessert vendors with a very cool looking dish of a giant round dough that had sugar on it. The dough was slow roasted over a wood flame, I was too full to try it, but next time.
To burn off that heavy lunch, I walked across the river and up to the castle.
Great sights and architecture.
With the early sunset, the lighting everywhere was stunning and really makes this city become magical.
I headed back across the river to my hotel to get ready for dinner at Onyx. Check out that amazing meal here.
After the amazing dinner at Onyx, I decided to walk it off and head back across the river and up the castle to enjoy the lights of the city. This is parliament across the river.
The church next to the castle.
The castle itself.
And like that, it was time to walk back to my hotel and get to bed for my early flight to LHR in the morning. I was sad my time in Budapest was coming to an end, it absolutely re-affirmed being one of my favorite cities in the world with beautiful architecture, history, food, wine and friendly people. If you ever get the chance, absolutely go!
