Athens briefly

With my need to get two additional Aegean segments on my segment-run, I stayed at the Sofitel hotel right across the street from the airport.

It's a fairly modern and clean hotel with a large lobby.

And hotel bar.

The rooms are large and while they aren't the newest, are completely fine.

A large shower and separate bath tub.

Nice room with everything you'd need.

And best of all, a bit of a runway view.

But what was amazing was the top floor spa, pool and gym. Check that out, avgeek dream!

I got a good workout in while enjoying the view.

The one drawback is it's a solid 40-minutes via train into Athens proper and with trains running only on the top and bottom of the hour. I decided to not go into Athens on the first night since I had to be up early and had work to do. So down to the lobby bar for a mastic cocktail before dinner.

I ended up eating at the main restaurant which had a buffet and after looking decided that was the best bet for tonight.

Fresh options.

I attempted to eat cleaner tonight with lots of veggies and some meat.

Ok maybe a bit more meat, oops, guess I have to workout harder in the morning.

The next day I did my flight segments (post) and had a fantastic lunch in Thessaloniki (post).

After getting back to my hotel and finishing some work, it was time to hop on the train and head into Athens. A quick ride later, I was out of the station and into the bustling city.

It's such an awesome place with history literally around every corner.

The Acropolis was well lit up and stunning.

Past many tavernas.

And better views of the Acropolis.

At the recommendation of Zuerichspotter, I made a pit stop for a chicken gyro at Gyristroula.

Unfortunately my phone had an issue after I took this and it didn't get itself fixed and restarted until after I had my bite.

With that, I didn't eat my whole gyro to save room for trying out Greek Michelin style dining at Hytra. Check this post out for that awesome meal.

I had literally the quickest stop in Athens, but will definitely be back with MrsFlamingo to explore more hopefully soon.
