After Budapest, our next stop was Switzerland to visit family and tour different parts of the country. We started in Zurich where our family lives, then toured Lucerne, Bern and the Alps.
From the Zurich airport we headed for the main train station to stow our bags and tour the town. As is typical with the Swiss train system, it was easy and fast arriving in no time.
We met with my cousin Zuerichspotter and he started our tour.
The weather was absolutely amazing, perfect for touring the town.
Front of the main Zurich train station.
We walked across Zurich and the bridge on our way to ETH to meet my uncle for lunch.
There's a great tram that takes people from the city level to the university on the hill.
The beautiful and historic ETH main campus. This is a major and world class research institution like the MIT of Europe. It has famous alums including Albert Einstein to set the bar.
Students were enjoying the amazing weather at lunch.
We had lunch in the faculty and administration lounge.
A panoramic view from the top of ETH looking out over Zurich.
After lunch we got started touring the city. Right next to ETH is the University of Zurich.
Views on our walk down into town.
At the base we enter directly into the old town.
We took turns drinking from the water fountains, talk about fresh alpine water!
View across the river.
Churches with amazing history.
MsFlamingo found an entire LeCreuset store...
The opera house and square.
The river adjacent to the square was perfect on a warm and sunny day.
Back into the main old town area.
Found a large Sprungli store!
Amazing desserts, we wanted to buy everything.
Everything in the store is top notch, incredibly fresh and immaculately arranged.
It's so good we don't have Globus nearby, would be there all the time and it makes Whole paycheck seem cheap.
After finishing checking out the stores, we headed back out to continue sight seeing and went up to a park overlooking the old town and river.
We ended our tour and it was time to head to our family's town. Instead of taking the train, my cousin suggested we take the ferry from Zurich to their town.
Amazing views of Zurich from the boat.
And in true Swiss fashion, even the ferry was amazing compared to the dirty ones we have back in the states.
A family was even having a dinner party on it.
Amazing views along the lake.
The original Lindt chocolate factory!
Even the docks have beautifully kept flowers.
Pulling up to our stop and to the house for the evening.
Zurich and surrounding towns are beautiful with great history, architecture, food and culture. We had a great time and the next day would go tour Lucerne, check out that post in the links below.
