After grabbing my checked bag, I headed out to the curbside to grab a taxi rather than take the Arlanda Express. I was excited to see plenty of Model S and X's being used as taxis and was able to enjoy one.
A nice and smooth ride into town, offered me plenty of time to question the driver how much he uses Autopilot, how he's found charging to work in real life, etc. Quick summary for those of you who don't know, it works swimmingly well even in a high use environment like taxi services. Side note, how awesome is this new all glas pano roof!
In town it was too early to check-in, but checked my bags and headed off to a lunch meeting. It was a beautiful day with perfect weather!
My trek on foot provided some great site seeing opportunities.
Heading into the proper old town portion of the city.
Beautiful architecture and historic sites.
Several cute alley ways to walk down, but I had to keep moving to make my lunch meeting.
Tempting if plans weren't already made.
The end of the main part of the old town.
Crossing the bridge and looking back towards the old town.
Up to the Gondolen where lunch would be with great views.
The views did not disappoint and provided great views of the river and city.
Lots of construction happening which made it not as perfectly picturesque, but still great.
Also so lucky with the great weather.
At the restaurant which had a bit of an old school vibe.
Views from the restaurant, really fun and a great chance to try some classic Swedish dishes.
After lunch, I had a few hours to kill before a call with the team back home and then dinner with MsFlamingo and her colleagues. I decided to wander a little bit more through the old town and hopefully check out the castle on the way back to the hotel.
Great classic-Euro streets and shops.
OMG a Nutella store, damn the diet!
MsFlamingo in art form :)
And the chairman in art form!
To the castle and parliament area.
Perfectly manicured and maintained.
To the castle for a very quick walk-about before heading to the hotel.
The entryway with cannons and ceremonial guards.
Pretty and classical architecture.
To the crown jewels exhibit, I had to sneak photos since technically you weren't supposed to, but I definitely believe in pushing limits :)
Quite the robe!
And an ornate chair.
Different rooms of the castle, besides Versailles, really impressive.
Definitely regal.
Guess the golden throne?
I always like the long hallways in castles with lots of windows and art.
Really impressive stonework and art.
And back outside to rush back.
Beautiful views over the rivers and canals.
Through some shopping areas.
And pretty much back to the hotel.
With that it was a very, very brief visit to Stockholm and a city you can see in a day or so. But for us, the main attraction are the incredible restaurants pushing new Nordic cuisine. Definitely excited to come back for foodie adventures.
