L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon - Shanghai 2

Updated: Aug 9, 2018

"If something is worth doing, it's worth overdoing" CKX.

Being ridiculous, I ended up back at Robuchon on my last night in Shanghai. I thought since I had mainly classic dishes, I wanted to try some others and how often does one have the opportunity go back to back.

I took more pictures of the beautiful ambiance tonight.

The staff recognized me and were very excited to have a return visitor so quickly and gave me a whole side of the bar to myself and we had a lot of fun this evening.

Some complimentary Veuve rose was a nice way to start the meal tonight.

Not wanting to repeat the same amuse, they brought a new one that had liquid nitrogen theatrics with a beet base, it was refreshing.

Then the awesome bread basket that I tried to refrain from devouring and ruining my appetite.

First up, a hamachi carpaccio with caviar and citrus olive oil. This was so fresh and tasty! It went even better with a glass of Chablis.

Next up was a modern interpretation of lobster bisque, by far the best I've ever had and with an Asian twist with bok choy.

I had another glass of Rioja like the night before to go with the foie gras stuffed quail. This dish is a classic and absolutely amazingly flavorful.

Then a Bordeaux from Chateau Poujeaux to go with the next course, it was fine, but still think I liked the Rioja more.

Next up was perfectly roasted lamb chops, supremely concentrated flavor and great texture - very nice!

For dessert was deciding between a Sauternes and a Riesling. In the end, the sommelier said why choose and have both. The Sauternes was exactly how you'd imagine with caramel, honey, apple and floral notes.

The Riesling was the real surprise for me and very nice, not as sweet, but had great floral and crisp fruit flavors.

For dessert I had the rice pudding, which was absolutely fantastic and I still dream about it. Both wines paired fantastically with it.

To cap off the evening I enjoyed some jasmine tea before heading upstairs to check out Bar Rouge and then The Long Bar down the street.

Such an awesome meal with friendly staff, amazing food and still maintain it's one of my favorite restaurant groups anywhere.
