Costes

Updated: Aug 9, 2018

Unfortunately MsFlamingo was hit hard with motion sickness from our flights and wanted to rest. While she napped, I went downstairs to have dinner at Costes in the hotel lobby. It's a 1-Michelin starred restaurant with modern Hungarian cuisine.

A nice living wall in the dining room.

The meal started with an amuse bouche of parmesan crisp with beef tartare and a crisp of rice colored with squid ink and Hungarian paprika cream. Both were very tasty!

Instead of starting with a glass of wine, I went with a gin based cocktail which hit the spot.

The bread basket was fresh baked with white and rye mini loaves. The butter options consisted of sweet cream butter and duck fat butter with paprika infused. I loved it!

Another amuse was brought out consisting of spring vegetable cream and a crispy topping.

The cold kohlrabi soup was refreshing and tasty.

For my main, I went with a Hungarian red wine that had a heavier body, strong fruit backbone and tannins that were starting to integrate.

For my main I went with the Mangalica pork, white onion puree and polenta cubes. It was very flavorful and well executed.

The intermezzo of mango sorbet was refreshing.

I went with the Hungarian pear and vanilla dessert. It had doughnut like chunks throughout and went well together.

Finally a closing trio of dessert bites and a fantastic meal done!

I wished MsFlamingo was feeling better and could have tried Costa, but at least we had a great restaurant within our hotel and they had house made gluten free rolls that she liked in the morning.
