Colombo

Updated: Sep 21, 2018

Having landed close to midnight, I made my way through customs quickly and found the hotel car waiting for me right outside. Of course the taxi area was chaotic as one would expect.

Soon in the taxi and on the surprisingly smooth and nice road to the hotel.

It was about 40-minutes and ended up at the Mandarina Colombo Hotel. It was near the water and looked decent enough on Agoda.

A little area with pastries and drinks.

Up to my room, it was fine, nothing wrong with it, but also nothing special.

The desk was large enough to work on if needed.

The bed was comfortable, especially after a long day of traveling.

The bathroom definitely felt the most in need a remodel, but was fine for a single night.

I got a great night of sleep and the next morning checked out the view from the room. A sort-of ocean view.

Surrounding neighborhood.

I went upstairs to get breakfast, it was on the roof and had a great view.

A nice breakfast buffet with western and Asian options.

After eating, I went out on the deck to check out the view and pool.

Definitely a nice place to relax, ok views, but it's most definitely not right on the beach.

Some Ceylon black tea was perfect to get going for the day.

View of the gym next to the deck.

I managed to get a workout in before packing back up and heading to Tangalle.

View of Colombo.

I checked out and was on my way in a taxi to Tangalle by noon.

A random air force related monument in the middle of a roundabout in town.

LOL 7-stars.

A large temple complex.

We stopped for fuel and a bio-break before continuing on the main highway to Tangalle.

While I didn't check out Colombo downtown proper, there isn't anything wrong with it, but compared to other areas like Tangalle, Galle and other areas, I wouldn't spend much time there and just use it as a place to sleep after or before a flight.
