Cathay Pacific Business HKG to Colombo

Updated: Sep 21, 2018

After a great and full day of lounge hopping, lunch with ShF and more lounge hopping, I was ready to get to Sri Lanka. Since this would be technically a regional flight, I wasn't in a rush to leave The Pier and left it as late as possible to make the long trek to gate 4.

Talk about a full day of lounge hopping and stamps!

However right before we were supposed to board, word of a maintenance issue delayed boarding by about 30-minutes.

Soon enough it was time to line up to board and the Cathay staff did a great job of making sure things stayed organized.

All business class through L1 and economy through L2 helped keep things organized.

A nice cabin with Cathay's 1-2-1 reverse herringbone seats. Since the cabin of the 330 is narrower than the 77W, each seat is narrower and does feel a bit tight, but I'm not complaining for a 5.5 hour flight.

I really like these seats for the room and privacy.

The TV pops out, it's an older system but works just fine.

The seat controls are easy to use and located nicely.

View looking across, overall good privacy for non-enclosed seats.

Seated quickly, the service staff was awesome and more like a full service international crew than regional. I decided to call it good on the alcohol for the day and went with the signature smoothie, it was perfect and hit the spot!

View with the monitor stowed.

Soon enough we'll be in Colombo.

Amenity kits were passed out in nice efficiently sized bags.

Actually well stocked for a 5-hours flight.

The cabin felt dated, but fine.

Menus were passed out.

Decent options, nothing too exciting, but could definitely be worse.

Meh wines, beats the US carriers for domestic flights, but nothing to break my dry flight plan.

We pushed back and headed straight to take off.

Almost ready to go.

Off we went, always great to watch the lights below.

The mood lighting during takeoff was great.

Soon after we were airborne, the lights were brightened and the crew jumped into action.

Sparkling water with lemon, absolutely perfect for this evening.

Trays with the starter of salad and smoked salmon were distributed along with bread from the basket, I went with maximum garlic bread. The salmon was fresh and tasty, the salad was fine.

Then a trolley with the mains, I really appreciate this to know what I'll be signing up for.

I went with the lamb, it was actually quite good and the seared spinach was a nice healthy thing to have after eating not so healthy all day.

Dinner was done within an hour of takeoff which I really appreciated. I skipped dessert like most others and went into bed mode.

A tight bed unlike the 77W version, but just fine to grab a couple hours of sleep.

I slept overall well despite hitting some solid chop along the way. I woke up as we started to descend into Colombo.

Soon enough on the ground and taxied to our gate.

Pulled up next to a Sri Lanka plane and woke myself up to get to my hotel in Colombo.

On the way to customs, some interesting sales options...

Cathay isn't known for their regional product, but the crew was fantastic and flight was just perfect to get a nap after a full day in Hong Kong.
